E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, chemical manufacturer, purchased the property in and around the City of DuPont in the early 1900's. Until
1951, DuPont was a "company town" owned by the DuPont Company, serving the employees and families of the company. After 1951, individuals were
allowed to purchase land in the area and the city of DuPont was incorporated.
The DuPont company manufacturing plant was closed in 1976 at which time it sold its remaining land holdings to Weyerhaeuser Company. Today, Northwest
Landing is a 3,000-acre mixed use planned community that includes industrial, office and commercial development, homes, schools, parks, open space and
trails. The area offers an exciting opportunity for young families and retirees as the planned development has retained the natural beauty of the area
including the wetland conservancy area in the area adjacent to Puget Sound.
